56 ngôi nhà vườn truyền thống tọa lạc trong khu vực Kinh Thành Huế được khảo sát đo vẽ và phỏng vấn chủ nhà nhằm tìm hiểu quá trình chuyển đổi không gian của chúng. Kết quả cho thấy, dưới tác động của mục đích kinh tế, sự gia tăng nhân khẩu, ảnh hưởng lũ lụt, mục đích thờ tự, cùng các nhân tố khác làm không gian các ngôi nhà chuyển đổi theo 3 phương (phương ngang, phương thẳng đứng và phương kết hợp). Các dạng chuyển đổi này có thể quan sát ở 9 dạng khác nhau. Ngoài ra, không gian các NVTTH cũng có thể chuyển đổi qua lại trong 9 dạng đó theo 5 trường hợp.

Nhìn chung, các chuyển đổi không gian này đi từ đơn giản đến phức tạp và chủ yếu xảy ra ở các nhà phụ, trong khi nhà chính gần như ít biến đổi và giữ nguyên hình dạng ban đầu của nó. Điều đó cho thấy nhà chính đóng một vai trò quan trọng trong tâm thức của chủ nhân và họ tìm cách giữ gìn và bảo tồn nhà chính của họ trong cuộc sống đương đại.

ABSTRACT

According to the measuring and interviewed surveys of 56 Huế Traditional Garden Houses located in the Citadel area, the spatial organization of these houses have been transformed into various configurations. The transformation of Huế Traditional Garden Houses can be caused by either business venture, growth of family members, requirement of space for clan worship, flood prevention, public usage and living purpose, or the combination of various causes. Besides, three directions of the transformations can be identified as well-horizontal plane, vertical plane and combined plane. With these three directions and the impacts of six causing factors, 9 variations of Traditional Garden Houses’ transformation can be found. The transformation of Huế Traditional Garden Houses among the above 9 variations can also be observed. It is found that the transformation of nine variations can be classified into five directions. Each direction can be further divided into different types according to their possible transformation.

Generally, Huế Traditional Garden Houses are transformed from simple to complex forms and spaces. These transformations mainly occur in nhà phụ (sub-house), while their nhà chính (main house) have not changed so much. This demonstrates that nhà chính has an important role in the owners’ spiritual life. Thus, the owners try to preserve and conserve nhà chính for contemporary use.
