Bửu Sơn Kỳ Hương là tôn giáo bản địa đầu tiên ở Nam Bộ, mang tinh thần nhập thế cao. Trong buổi đầu truyền đạo, Bửu Sơn Kỳ Hương đã đẩy mạnh việc khai khẩn vùng Thất Sơn (An Giang), là miền biên viễn phía tây nam đất nước. Bài viết này phân tích mô hình “Trại ruộng” của các tín đồ đạo Bửu Sơn Kỳ Hương trong buổi đầu khai phái vùng Thất Sơn vào nửa sau thế kỷ XIX. Mô hình này một mặt khuyến khích người dân định cư, khai phá vùng đất khắc nghiệt thành một nơi trù phú, mặt khác đó cũng là môi trường rèn luyện tâm hồn, nuôi dưỡng đạo đức của người tu hành, biết “tích nhơn, tích nghĩa, tích trung, tích lành”.
ABSTRACT
AN OUTLOOK ON THẤT SƠN: ONE MODEL - TWO EFFECTS 
The religious belief of Bửu Sơn Kỳ Hương (Way of the Strange Fragrance from the Precious Mountain) in the South was the first indigenous religion which had the spirit of entering into life. In the beginning of this religion, the followers were encouraged to go and break fresh ground in the area of Thất Sơn range (An Giang), the southernmost part of the country. This article aims to analyze the model of “Trại ruộng” (Farm of paddy-fields) of Bửu Sơn Kỳ Hương’s followers during early days of cultivating the area of Thất Sơn in the second half of the 19th century. This model, on the one hand, encouraged people to settle down and cultivate the harsh land into a prosperous area; on the other hand, it was also the environment for the improvement of the soul and the nurture of morality, helping those who lead a religious life know how to accumulate of the monk, accent,  accumulate “humanity, righteousness, loyalty and goodness”.
