Từ năm 1867, mặc dù 6 tỉnh Nam Kỳ đã mất trọn về tay thực dân Pháp nhưng ảnh hưởng của triều đình Huế trên đất Nam Kỳ vẫn được duy trì ít ra là mặt văn hóa, thể hiện ở việc nhà Nguyễn vẫn tiếp tục phong thần để “bảo ngã lê dân” Nam Kỳ. Chính việc làm khéo léo này đã giúp dân Nam Kỳ bảo lưu được truyền thống văn hóa để hội nhập mà không mất gốc.

DEIFICATION IN SOUTH VIETNAM DURING THE FRENCH DOMINATION
From 1867, although the six provinces of Cochinchina had fallen into the hands to the French colonists, the influence of the Huế royal court on Cochinchina was maintained at least in terms of culture, which is reflected in the fact that the Nguyễn dynasty still continued its deification to protect the people of Cochinchina. This clever action helped the people of Cochinchina preserve their cultural traditions for integration without losing their origin.
