Trong bài viết này tác giả chứng minh loại tiền hợp kim bạc có hình chim nổi do L. Malleret khai quật được năm 1944 tại Óc Eo được sản xuất tại Ấn Độ muộn nhất vào đầu Công nguyên để chuyển đến Phù Nam và cư dân đồng bằng Cửu Long sử dụng rộng rãi làm phương tiện thanh toán. Đồng thời chứng minh rằng hiện vật bằng vàng cũng do L. Malleret khai quật, đúc nổi chân dung và ghi tên hoàng đế La Mã Antonius (138 - 161) không phải là huy chương mà là tiền vàng. Tác giả còn đưa ra 2 đồng tiền vàng Ấn Độ, Hy Lạp cho đến nay là độc bản chưa được ai biết đến và một đồng tiền bằng đồng của La Mã, ngoài ra là một số đồng tiền khác. Qua những sưu tập phẩm này tác giả chứng minh rằng từ trước Công nguyên khoảng 100 năm cho đến vài trăm năm sau, thị cảng Óc Eo đã là một trung tâm thương mại thông thương với cả các quốc gia ven Địa Trung Hải.

ABSTRACT

In this writing, the author proves that the kind of coins made of a silver alloy  with a relief design of a bird, which were  excavated by L. Malleret in 1944 at Óc Eo,  were made in India not later than the first years of the Christian Era. These were to be exported to Phù Nam Kingdom and the local Mekong Delta inhabitants commonly used them  for their business transactions. Also he proves that the gold objects with the relief image of the Roman king Antonius (138 -161) and with his name, which were discovered by L. Malleret, too, were not medals but gold coins. The author goes further to introduce a India gold coin and a Greek one never mentioned before, which can be said to be unique now, a Roman bronze coin, and several others. Basing on this collection he believes that since a  time point some one hundred years before the Christian Era, for hundreds of years, the commercial port of Óc Eo were a trade center which had relations with even the nations on the Mediteranean Sea.
