Abstract

Based on the analysis of 5700 phrasal construction terms the study reveals that 90% of the terms are made up of 2 or 3 linguistic elements following two models with the elements being governed by the primary-secondary relationship. It is these two common models that constitute the systematic characteristic of the terms in  general and the phrasal  construction terms in particular in Vietnamese. The linguistic elements in the construction terms may contain maximum five levels of combination but these terms are not very common. These long terms often contain the linguistic elements that are prepositions or repetitive meanings or words describing the properties of the objects. Therefore, when adjusting and standardising these terms, these terms should be contracted by leaving out the extra linguistic elements with a condition t hat this does not trigger the misunderstanding of concepts or denotations
