The structre of the english admission essay
Abstract
In the light of Discourse Analysis, this article deals with the functional structure of the genre of admission essay in English - one of the requirements of the application to English-speaking colleges and universities. We apply Functional Grammar as a tool to analyze the essays; the major research methods are qualitative, quantitative, and descriptive methods. The results documents the elements of the introduction, the body, and the conclusion as well as the strategies made use of to build up these elements. The analysis also indicates some differences between the genre in question and the English traditional essay.
