Connector vì in Vietnamese arguments

Abstract

This article analyzes the operation and functions of the connector vì  in Vietnamese arguments. The research results show that vìis the two  -   position connector which usually inputs reasons or evidences in arguments of the causes  -  consequences form.  Vì/  ặ   ì/  hay vì  or the combination  of  the same direction connector and  vì  (such as: và vì, mà vì,...) can  input  next reasons or next evidences in arguments which are enlarged. Vì or the combination of the same direction connector and  vì  can inputs reasonsor evidences which move towards  conclusionin the  three - position  arguments using  thereverse direction connectors. Especially, vì  can play role of a connector in an argument which includes two different arguments: a negative argument (-{r  ← (vì   p1} and a positive argument (r ← (vì) p2).
