Linguistic translation and discourse translation

  • Đinh Hồng Vân

Abstract

Accelerating international integration entails a growing need for translation despite the fact that more people are using foreign languages in international communication. Translation has become a socially-recognised and professionally-trained career. Besides high-quality translation products, there remain those that fail to meet communicative needs. The distinction between linguistic meaning and discourse meaning, between linguistic translation and discourse translation, and the determination of the authentic translation object in international communication not only help to decide the dignity of each translation form but also facilitate the understanding of the causes of faulty translation products.
