Abstract

This study aims to analyze the tendency of using “subject expressing point ofview” in story telling by Vietnamese learners of Japanese in comparison with the native speakers of Japanese. It is found that Vietnamese tend to use first person subject "I" more frequently than the third person subject when they tell stories. In addition, the higher proficiency level of Japanese they gain, the more constantly they use first person subject. This finding is important to consider for more appropriate and practical methods to help students develop skills in choosing subjects which are close to native speakers
