Abstract

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) chronic gastritis can lead to gastric cancer. Treatment guidelines for H. pylori have been updated based on the antimicrobial resistance of H. pylori. The study was conducted to analyze the situation of drug use to treat Helicobacter pyloriinduced chronic gastritis in outpatients, and evaluate the therapeutic outcome as well as medication adherence in investigation samples at Can Tho City General Hospital in 2020. A cross-sectional descriptive study analyzed 166 outpatients’medical records, and the 8-item Morisky Medication Adherence Scale was applied to investigate medical adherence. The results showed that the first-line H. pylori treatment regimen was used in which the first combination of 3 drugs PPI + Amoxicillin + Clarithromycin was the highest applied prescription (76,51%). The most used PPI drug was Esomeprazol, accounting for 66,27%. The ratio of H. pylori eradication after treatment was 88,55%. The level of good medical adherence was recorded at 66,27%. The rate of patients without clinical symptoms of the disease was 33,53%. Our results indicated a relationship between the degree of treatment adherence and the ratio of H. pylori eradication. Treatment guidelines need to be continuously updated, and health education and counseling improved.
