FACTORS AFFECTING THE SETTLEMENT OF LAND DISPUTES TO ENSURE THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CENTRAL HIGHLANDS

Abstract

In recent years, land disputes have emerged as one of hot issues, affecting all aspects of the political and socio-economic situation of the provinces of the Central Highlands and threatening the goal of sustainable development of this region. The land disputes in question are diverse, multi-faceted, multidimensional and widely common. If those disputes are not effectively and thorougly settled, the social instability likely happens, especially in the context that the region faces implicitly political, ethnic and religious challenges. To thorougly deal with land disputes in the Central Highlands, it is necessary to identify specific characteristics of this region. The paper analyses factors shaped by the specific charateristics of the Central Highlands which significantly impact the settlement of land disputes and thereby contributes to developing the basis for proposing measures to settle land disputes to ensure the sustainable development in the Central Highlands.
