Impact of import tariff reduction commitments under the CPTPP on Vietnam
Abstract
On the basis of analysing import tariff reduction commitments under the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), it is argued in the paper that the impact of opening market access for trade in goods under the CPTPP framework on both the economy of Vietnam and the competitive ability of some goods sectors, especially the key ones including garments, agriculture, aquaculture, electrical and electronic products, minerals and petroleum after the tariff reduction, remains insignificant. However, the Government and enterprises still encounter certain challenges when implementing the CPTPP. The paper, thus, offers some policy proposals which may help Vietnam effectively implement the provisions of the Agrement on import tariff in the coming time.
