Contributions of Nepalese diaspora to the national development

Abstract

Compared to other South Asian countries, Nepal is a modest country in terms of economic activity. However, in recent years, this country has witnessed remarkable development, largely due to the efforts of the Nepalese community abroad. Despite being far from home, they have been contributing to the development of Nepal in many forms such as remittances, people-to-people connection, cultural values promotion,... The increase in the remittance inflow is the result of a process of migration abroad to find jobs of the Nepalese workers. Through data and policy analysis of Nepalese government and international organizations, this study clarifies the role of Nepalese diaspora in the development of the country and the government's policies towards Nepalese diaspora.
