THE ADVANTAGES AND CHALLENGES OF VIETNAMESE LEARNERS IN STUDYING CHINESE

This article analyzes the advantages and challenges that Vietnamese learners often encounter
when learning Chinese. The research method is mainly to synthesize and analyze the theory of comparative
linguistics and the practical experiences of learners. The research results show that Vietnamese learners
have many significant advantages in terms of vocabulary, grammar and socio-cultural aspects when
learning Chinese, but they also encounter challenges related to Chinese characters and confusion or
negative transfer between Sino-Vietnamese words and modern Chinese vocabulary. In addition, the rich
diversity of dialects and colloquial expressions in Chinese also cause additional difficulties for learners in
both the learning process and practical use. From this, Chinese language teachers and learners will have
a basis to develop appropriate teaching methods and learning plans.
