THE IMPACT OF PROJECT-BASED LEARNING (PBL) AND CRITICAL THINKING IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING: A MIXED-METHODS PERSPECTIVE AT VAN LANG UNIVERSITY

This research explores the trans-formative impact of Project-Based Learning (PBL) and critical
thinking on English language learning at Van Lang University, using a mixed-methods approach for
comprehensive insights. Data were collected from 120 students via surveys, interviews, and classroom
observations over one semester. Findings revealed that PBL enhances both language proficiency and
critical thinking skills essential for academic and real-world problem-solving. SPSS analysis showed a
significant positive correlation between active engagement in PBL and improved academic performance,
including notable gains in language acquisition and collaboration. Qualitative data further indicated
increased student motivation, engagement, and confidence in using English practically. This study
highlights the value of integrating PBL and critical thinking into the curriculum to address limitations
in traditional language education and promote dynamic, student-centered learning aligned with 21stcentury standards.
