ABSTRACT
Competency-based teaching is a current educational trend of countries around the world. Mathematical
modeling competence is important in learning mathematics, and is the basis for solving problems related to
practice as well as learning other subjects. Furthermore, the system of linear equations with two unknowns is
an important concept in mathematics, with great potential for developing mathematical modeling competence.
In this paper, we design a teaching situation to teach the concept of a System of linear equations with two
unknowns in order to develop mathematical modeling capacity for 9th grade students.
