Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine some physico-chemical properties of biochar from sugarcane bagasse at pyrolysis temperature of 500oC and 700oC. Biochar was produced by pyrolysis method (500oC and 700oC) by a kiln - VMF 165, the nitrogen gas was pumped into the furnace at a rate of 3 L min1 to remove the air from inside of the furnace. The kiln temperature was increased from room temperature to 500°C and 700°C at a heating rate of 10°C min1. The treatments were randomly arranged with 2 treatments and 3 replicates for each treatment. Results of SEM show that biochar from sugarcane bagasse at a pyrolysis temperature of 500oC and 700oC has a pore structure which is much higher than raw bagasse. Biochar yield at 500oC is higher than 700oC by 28.19% and 21.18%, respectively. The pH, EC, and CEC values of biochar from sugarcane bagasse are increased with increasing temperature. The high carbon content at 700oC has reached 38.97%. The pHpzc value at 500oC is 8.26 and at 700oC, it is 9.29.
