STUDY ON EXTRACTING OF ILLICIUM VERUM ESSENTIAL OIL
Abstract
Illicium verum essential oil in Vietnam is appreciated for its high quality. The production of anise essential oil is stagnated, equipment and technology for extraction of essential oil are rudimentary and outdated, so the quality of anise essential oil is low, unable to compete in the domestic and foreign markets. The study aims to optimize the extraction process specifications to obtain the highest amount of essential oil and determine the chemical composition of anise essential oil. Essential oils were obtained by steam distillation, yielding 92.637% of essential oils. Optimal conditions for distilling to obtain anise essential oil are solvent/material ratio: 5/1 (mL/g), time: 90 minutes, at: 110°C, material size ≤2 cm, time material soaking time for 8 hours for the extracted essential oil content to reach 3.43; Antheol content in essential oils is high, at 76.65%. The results of the research are an important scientific basis, contributing to finding the method to recover essential oils with the highest efficiency, applied to improve the value of Illicium verum essential oil in practical production.
