Abstract

This study aims to describe the structure and composition of the antibiotics used in the treatment of inpatients at Cao Bang General Hospital in 2021. A cross-sectional description of the information on the antibiotics was used in the departments, including: antibiotic name, content, route of administration, country of manufacture, quantity, unit price. The list of antibiotics at the Hospital was used in the inpatient treatment of Cao Bang General Hospital from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021. The main findings showed that the group of Beta-lactam: Penicilline antibiotics accounted for the highest number of items (58.75% with a value of nearly 6 billion VND). Single-component antibiotics were used at a high rate (97.6% in items and 62.08% in value); Domestically produced antibiotics were used to higher with 56 items, accounting for 69.9% values, however, the consumption value of these antibiotics only 34.37%; Intravenous antibiotics had a higher use value than oral antibiotics (52.7% and 41.9%). Thus, the structure of antibiotics used in our hospital is appropriate. However, it is necessary to strengthen inspection and supervision of de-escalation for a number of parenteral/infusion antibiotics being used at the hospital according to the guidance of the Ministry of Health Vietnam for streamlining the use of antibiotics, one of the strategies being intravenous to oral antibiotic switch.
