EVALUATION OF THE RESULTS OF TONSILLECTOMY WITH CO2 LASER AT OTORHINOLARYGOLOGY DEPARTMENT AT THAI NGUYEN NATIONAL HOSPITAL

Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the results of tonsillectomy by laser CO2. The study subjects include 65 patients who underwent CO2 laser tonsillectomy at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology - Thai Nguyen National Hospital from April 2022 to December 2022, using a descriptive research method, rescue can be before-after. The results showed that the proportion patients accounted for 52.3%, equivalent to 47.7% male. The mean age is 22.7. The degree of oversaturation of tonsil grade III, IV accounts for the majority. The age group 6-15 had the shortest surgery time, the age group 35-55 had the majority of surgery time over 30 minutes. The average blood loss during surgery was 12.5 ml, in which the average blood loss was from 5-10 ml, accounting for 70.8%. The highest average pain score on the first day after surgery was 4.2 points. The average length of hospital stay was 4.12 days, and the average time to work and back to school was 6.7 days. The most common postoperative complication was damage to surrounding tissues accounting for 18.5%, bleeding was common with a low rate of 3.1%. Evaluation of operative mortality 96.9% was in good progress. Conclusions through the study show that the CO2 laser tonsillectomy method is safe.
