THE STATUS OF HOMOPHOBIC DISCRIMINATION OF HANOI STUDENTS IN 2023

Abstract

This study aims to assess the status of homophobia among students in Hanoi in 2023 and identify a number of related factors. The study using the cross-sectional descriptive method was conducted on 428 students of universities in Hanoi city. Research results show that the number of students participating in the survey was mainly female (86.2%), only a few male students participated in the survey (13.8%). Their living areas were mostly in cities (52.1%) and rural areas (43.2%). The number of students participating in the survey was unevenly distributed across sectors: economic sector (19.4%), social sector (24.1%), engineering sector (18.5%), health sector (38.1%). 330 students (77.1%) expressed discriminatory attitudes towards homosexual (45.6% low level, 16.1% normal level and 15.4% high level). Research results also show that a number of related factors such as gender, major, having acquaintances, family members, close friends who are gay affected the level of homophobia.
