Abstract

Realising water security will have a profound impact on the sustainable development of the country, from year 2020, the XIV National Assembly has implemented water security monitoring activities for production, water supply and dam safety. The Politburo issued Conclusion No. 36-KL/TW dated June 23, 2022 on ensuring water security, safety of dams and reservoirs until 2030, with a vision to 2045, stating direction of country's water resources, set targets to 2030, 2045 and identify implementation measures. Research results of international and domestic organisations, with characteristics located at lower ends of large international river basins, the Mekong Delta and the Red River Delta will be extremely adversely affected due to changing climate, water exploitation in the upstream countries, as well as pressure from internal socio-economic development activities. On the basis of the general orientation of the Central Committee of the Party, Conclusion No. 36-KL/TW, the article has assessed the situation and specific challenges of the deltas in terms of water resources to develop measures, mainly to ensure water security for sustainable socio-economic development in Vietnam, for Red River Delta and Mekong Delta
