ENHANCING SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELING COMPETENCE IN THAI NGUYEN PROVINCE: CURRENT SITUATION AND SOLUTIONS

This study investigates the school psychological counseling competence among teachers at ethnic minority boarding lower secondary schools in Thai Nguyen Province. It focuses on assessing the current situation and identifying factors influencing the effectiveness of school counseling. The study employed survey, interview, and document analysis methods with 465 participants (including 15 administrators, 150 teachers, 150 parents, and 150 students) from five boarding schools. The findings reveal that teachers are aware of the importance of school psychological counseling; however, their practical competence remains limited due to insufficient professional training, lack of resources, and inadequate counseling methods. Based on these findings, the paper proposes several solutions to enhance teachers’ counseling competence, including strengthening professional development programs, collaborating with psychological experts, improving the school psychology curriculum, and enhancing working conditions. These solutions aim to improve the quality of counseling services and promote students’ comprehensive development in the school environment.
