EXCLAMATION EXPRESSIONS IN SIDNEY SHELDON’S NOVEL “IF TOMORROW COMES” AND ITS VIETNAMESE TRANSLATION EQUIVALENTS

This paper investigates the syntactic features and expression exclamations in English in the novel “If tomorrow comes” by the author Sidney Sheldon and its Vietnamese equivalent by translator Nguyen Ba Long. It is conducted with the hope of finding out the similarities and differences between how exclamations are formed in both languages and suggesting practical applications to the learning and teaching of English as a foreign language in Vietnam. Descriptive and comparative methods are used. 248 data collected from the novel “If tomorrow comes” by Sidney Sheldon are used for analysis. The result of the study illustrates the fact that exclamations in the novel “If tomorrow comes” and its Vietnamese equivalents are quite similar in syntactic and semantic features. The study aims to help English learners learn English exclamations more effectively.
