Gender audit in the public sector performed by supreme audit institutions - recommendations for the State Audit Office of Vietnam

Abstract

Gender equality is one of the Sustainable Development Goals identified by the United Nations. The issue of gender equality is receiving increasing attention from countries worldwide. Gender Audit is a crucial tool that helps organizations assess the degree of gender mainstreaming in their policies and activities, but it is still rarely applied in Vietnam. This article clarifies the general overview of gender auditing; the risks and challenges in performing gender audits in the public sector; and the current status of gender audits in the public sector conducted by the State Audit Office of Vietnam (SAV). Based on this analysis, the article offers recommendations to develop and enhance the effectiveness of this audit content.
