Prevalence and some associated factors of anemia in pulmonary tuberculosis retreatment patients at Haiphong Lung Hospital from 2022 - 2023
Abstract
Tuberculosis, particularly retreatment pulmonary tuberculosis, remains a significant global health issue. Anemia is a common symptom in pulmonary tuberculosis patients and may contribute to the progression of pulmonary tuberculosis. This study aims to describe the prevalence and some associated factors of anemia in patients with recurrent pulmonary tuberculosis at Hai Phong Lung Hospital from 2022 to 2023. A retrospective cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted to gather general information, anemia prevalence, and some associated factors in patients with recurrent pulmonary tuberculosis at Hai Phong Lung Hospital between January 2022 and December 2023. The results showed that the average age of patients was 57.69 ± 14.13 years, with a male-to-female ratio of 7:1. The prevalence of anemia was 43.1%, predominantly mild anemia (84.7%), with the majority being microcytic hypochromic anemia. Factors such as having two or more retreatment, malnutrition, and radiographic pulmonary lesions classified as grade 2 and 3 were associated with anemia in the study population.
