Current status of gestational diabetes in pregnant women managed at Hung Yen Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital in 2023
Abstract
Gestational diabetes is a condition of glucose intolerance at any level, which begins or is first detected during pregnancy. If gestational diabetes is not detected and treated promptly, it will cause many risks to the mother and fetus, such as miscarriage, stillbirth, maternal hypertension, and hypocalcemia in the baby. A cross-sectional study of 315 pregnant women managed at the obstetrics clinic - Hung Yen Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital from January to October 2023 to describe the current status of gestational diabetes. The study results showed that 30.2% of pregnant women had gestational diabetes; the fasting blood sugar test detected 46.3%, the glucose tolerance test detected an additional 27.4% after 1 hour and 26.3% after 2 hours. The results also showed that 26.3% of pregnant women do not have the habit of going for regular health check-ups, 87% do not do enough physical activity as recommended, and the rate of improper nutrition is still high. To detect gestational diabetes early, pregnant women should take the initiative to get screened and increase screening for early detection of the disease at specialized medical facilities.
