Abstract

Objective: To determine the rate of pregnant women at high risk of neural tube defects by quantifying AFB in maternal serum using the triple test kit. Research subjects: Pregnant women in Hai Phong, single pregnancy, gestational age 14 - 22. Research method: Cross-sectional. Results: Most of the pregnant women participating in the study were between the ages of 20 and 30 (65%), and the gestational age at which the triple test was performed was mainly 16-18 weeks (72%). Of the 1,003 pregnant women participating in the study, there were 15 cases at high risk for neural tube defects, accounting for 1.5%. The group of pregnant women at low risk for neural tube defects accounted for 98.5%. The pregnancy outcomes of the 15 cases at high risk for neural tube defects included 2 stillbirths at 20 weeks of gestation, and the remaining 13 cases had no abnormalities recorded in the newborns. Conclusion: Among the 1003 pregnant women participating in the study, there were 15 high-risk cases with neural tube defects, accounting for a rate of 1.5%. Two of the 15 high-risk pregnancies ended in stillbirth at 20 weeks of gestation.
