Abstract

Objective: To describe the postoperative analgesic effects and potential adverse effects of bilateral quadratus lumborum block (QLB) for pain management after cesarean section. Subjects and Methods: The study included 40 postpartum women undergoing cesarean section under spinal anesthesia. After surgery, patients were monitored in the recovery room. When experiencing pain with a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score of ≥4 during movement, bilateral QLB was performed. Patients were subsequently monitored for 24 hours at specific time points (before the block, and at 15 minutes, 1 hour, 6 hours, 12 hours, and 24 hours after the block). If pain persisted within the 24-hour period, intravenous perfalgan 1g and rectal voltarel 100mg were administered. From the following day, oral efferalgan 500mg was given four times daily, with rectal voltarel 100mg administered if VAS ≥4. Results: The duration of postoperative pain relief provided by bilateral QLB was 21.57 ± 5.07 hours. The rates of "very satisfied" and "satisfied" patients were 57.5% and 42.5%, respectively. Bilateral QLB had no significant effects on heart rate, blood pressure, or SpO2, and no adverse effects were reported. Conclusion: Bilateral quadratus lumborum block is an effective analgesic technique for postoperative pain management after cesarean section, contributing to patient satisfaction. The duration of pain relief was 22.27 ± 5.47 hours, with no recorded adverse effects.
