Abstract
474 stool samples of dogs from 4 districts and cities in Thai Nguyen province were examined.
The studied results showed that there were 25.11% of dogs infected with roundworm. The
prevalence of roundworm disease in dogs ranged from 20.87% to 28.89% according to localities.
There were 22.69% of dogs infected at severe and very severe infection intensity. Dogs of all
ages were infected with roundworm disease, with the prevalence gradually decreased by age
groups (36.08% for dogs under 6 months old, 26.06% for dogs from 6 to 12 months old, and
12.58% for dogs over 12 months old). The prevalence and infection intensity in the summer
season were higher than in other seasons. The infection rate of the free-grazing dogs was higher
than that of the dogs in free-grazing mixed with captive method (29.77%, 21.24%, respectively).
The infection dogs had the common clinical symptoms, such as: emaciation and slow weight
gain (72.09%), prolonged digestive disorders, including constipation and diarrhea (65.12%),
severe diarrhea (44.19%), vomiting and anorexia (37.21%), distended abdomen and ruffled fur
(20.93%), and neurological symptoms (6.98%). The white blood cell count of the infection dogs
increased compared to the healthy dogs, while the number of red blood cells and hemoglobin
content of the infection dogs decreased. Using the Sanpet drug to deworm for dogs achieved
90% of recover and safety
