Abstract

The generation of solid waste as a consequence of human development is nearly unavoidable, particularly in the case of plastic waste. This study presents a circular economy model tailored for the plastic industry in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, utilizing both theoretical and practical approaches to reduce plastic waste. Findings indicate that less than 44% of plastic waste is effectively recovered, while over 56% is improperly disposed of by the population. The predominant types of plastic waste identified include polypropylene (27.1%), polyethylene (51.2%), and polyvinyl chloride (13.4%). Notably, through the application of SWOT analysis and the Likert scale, the research highlights potential financial benefits as well as challenges that must be addressed in implementing the proposed solutions within the study area.
