MO IN THE LIFE OF MUONG ETHNIC GROUP IN NINH BINH PROVINCE TODAY
Abstract
Mo is a featured religious activity which is very important in spiritual life of Muong ethnic group. Mo is not only a ritual performed at funerals but also contains the entire integrated values that form traditional Muong culture (worldview, outlook on life, ethnic history, social institutions, folk literature and art, beliefs and daily living habits...). Mo Muong in Ninh Binh province not only has the characteristics of Mo Muong in general but also has the unique local nuances of the Muong ethnic group here. Nowadays, the implementation of the ‘Mo’ heritage in Muong’s ethnic community in Ninh Binh province is fading away rapidly, it needs emergency protection while the research, conservation and value promotion activities here are still too few. The article focuses on presenting an overview of the origin, unique characteristics and current status of Mo heritage practice in the community as well as preserving and promoting the value of Muong Mo heritage in Ninh Binh province today.
