Dai Viet - East Asia relations in the 13th–14th centuries and Huyen Tran’s marriage to Che Man

Abstract

After significant political upheavals in regional relations from the second half of the 13th century to the early 14th century, many East Asian countries sought to redefine and restructure their diplomatic ties, especially diplomatic relations with its neighbours. The article is to analyze the historical and political context of East Asia, new movements and factors in the Vietnam - China - Champa relations, and the paths and strategies of the three countries. Accordingly, it aims to provide a clearer understanding of Vietnam-Champa diplomatic movements, the marriage between Huyen Tran and Che Man as well as the long-term and multifaceted consequences of this marriage.
