Tóm tắt
Propaganda slogans are a visual and vivid form of propaganda and action promotion, which have been commonly-used in many countries in the world. Given their requirement for brevity and conciseness, the application of cooperative principles should be paid attention to in their creation and use. The current study examines the use of the cooperative principles in Vietnamese and English propaganda slogans, comparing and contrasting their application to find out similarities and differences between the two languages. The corpus of the study includes socio-political propaganda slogans commonly used in Viet Nam and the United States in recent years. The survey results indicate that the application of communicative strategies, and specifically cooperative principles, not only reflect the language usage norms of each society but also bring into practice the communicative functions of propaganda slogans.
