Linguistic Features of Orchards Naming in Vietnamese

Abstract

The article survey of 1218 orchard names in Vietnamese and establishing 14 representative naming models based on the characteristics such as geographical location, color, shape, size, taste, ethnic origin, folk legends, and others. The results show that the Vietnamese modes of identiftcation  are closely tied to sensory perception, agricultural experience, and local culture. The naming models reflect the richness and flexibility in the word structure and the ways in which Vietnamese people linguistically represent the plant world. The study contributes to clarifying the mechanisms of language perception, while also providing useful materials for lexicography, education, and the preservation of folk knowledge.
