Application of artificial intelligence (ai) in designing questions and exercises for the topic “fungi” – Science 4
Abstract
In the context of rapid digital transformation, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into primary education offers significant opportunities to innovate teaching methods and enhance assessment practices. This study presents a structured process for applying AI to generate questions and exercises for the topic “Fungi” in Grade 4 Science, aligned with the competency-based orientation of the 2018 Vietnamese General Education Curriculum. Drawing on theoretical foundations of AI and prompt engineering, the study proposes a four-step procedure: identifying learning objectives, classifying cognitive levels, using AI to generate question items, and validating and refining AI-generated outputs. A reusable prompt template is developed and illustrated through a set of multiple-choice and open-ended questions, as well as an assessment matrix for the topic. Findings indicate that AI effectively diversifies question types, saves preparation time, and enhances real-world relevance; however, teacher review remains essential to ensure scientific accuracy and pedagogical appropriateness. The study provides practical pedagogical implications for utilizing AI in designing assessment tools in primary education.
