Abstract

Background: Hand hygiene is a core measure for the prevention of healthcare-associated infections; however, compliance remains inconsistent across different groups of healthcare workers. Assessing knowledge, attitudes, and associated factors is essential to inform targeted interventions aimed at improving hand hygiene practices in specialized healthcare settings.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 364 healthcare workers from July 2025 to November 2025 at the Hospital for Rehabilitation - Professional Diseases. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire developed by Hoang Thi Xuan Huong. Knowledge was assessed using 19 items (score range: 0 – 19) and classified as adequate when the score was ≥ 11; attitudes were assessed using 8 items (score range: 0 – 8) and classified as positive when the score was ≥ 6.
Results: The proportions of healthcare workers with adequate knowledge and positive attitudes toward hand hygiene were 60.2% and 69.0%, respectively. Knowledge was significantly associated with sex, age group, professional role, and years of work experience (p < 0.05). Attitudes were significantly related to age group, years of experience, professional role, and educational level (p < 0.05).
Conclusions: Healthcare workers’ knowledge and attitudes toward routine hand hygiene remain areas that need strengthening, in line with the associations identified.
