Abstract

This research has comprehensively explored green solutions for sustainable logistics in Vietnam, highlighting the critical need to address environmental challenges in the logistics sector. The study revealed that traditional logistics activities, particularly road transport, contribute significantly to Vietnam's greenhouse gas emissions, with road transport accounting for 85% of the sector’s CO2 emissions, totaling over 50 million tons annually. Maritime, rail, and air transport also pose environmental challenges, including water pollution, outdated infrastructure, and high logistics costs (16.8%-20% of GDP). However, opportunities for greener logistics exist through modernizing infrastructure, adopting electric vehicles, optimizing routes with advanced technologies, and leveraging government policies like Decision 876/QD-TTg for green energy transition by 2050. Successful global and local examples, such as Toyota’s green supply chain and Vinamilk’s sustainable practices, demonstrate the feasibility of reducing emissions while enhancing efficiency. Proposed solutions include promoting multimodal transport, improving IT infrastructure, and implementing supportive policies to foster green logistics.
