Abstract
Studies on changes in Vietnamese villages typically focus on trends towards modernisation, overlooking the parallel process of traditionalisation. While some studies have highlighted the integration of traditional elements in diverse forms, few have addressed both processes in Vietnamese villages. This article, based on ethnographic records and utilising process and spatial approaches, analyses the co-occurrence of modernisation and traditionalisation and their causes in Dong Ky village, Tu Son city, Bac Ninh province, over nearly four decades of Doi Moi in Vietnam.
