Identifying Some Trends of Nung and Hmong People’s Costume Changes in the Border Area of Cao Bang Province
Abstract
Costumes are a material cultural element which reflect the customs, habits, beauty, and unique identity of each ethnic group. Amid Vietnam’s integration and socioeconomic development in recent years, similar to other cultural elements, costumes have undergone drastic changes, contributing to the culture of the local ethnic groups becoming richer and more diverse. Nevertheless, those changes also show the loss of traditional ethnic elements. The article refers to costume changes of the Nung Giang and the White Hmong in the border area of Cao Bang province, thereby identifying some trends in costumes changes of these two ethnic groups in the border area and drawing out positive as well as negative points to contribute to the preservation of ethnic traditional cultural values.
