Changes in farming activities of the Co people in Tra Son Commune, Tra Bong district, Quang Ngai province

Abstract

This article discusses the changes in farming activities of the Co people in Tra Son commune, Tra Bong district, Quang Ngai province. Due to the impacts of new circumstances, the Co people have maximized wet rice squares in order to save all upland for commercial agriculture, especial highly productive plants in combination with forest plants. They use hybrid productive seeds with new farming technologies for their wet rice agriculture. In addition, they start their forestry economy through forest protection activities. However, due to the lack of farming land, the Co people still suffer from poverty and food insecurity. This leads to forest destruction for the purpose of slash and burn farming. These problems should be of concern to authorities at all levels and resolved in some way.
