Some Thoughts on the Current Relationship Between Khmer Cultural Heritage and The New Rural Development Plan in South West Region.

Abstract

The New Rural Building Program is a correct decision of the Vietnamese government in the contemporary period. However, this program is challenging because it requires a long duration with a huge amount of social resources as well as a strong will of authorities at all levels and of all people so that goals will be successfully achieved. For the Khmer in the South West region, to make the new rural program successful, only attending to material resources is not adequate. Traditional cultural values of the Khmer must be taken into account in order to make the program develop sustainably.
