Based on the general overview of documents, the writing summarizes preliminarily the ethnic policies in Vietnam from 1980 up to now. In doing so, the writing classifies Vietnam’s ethnic policies into two categories: macro- and specific policies. It indicates clearly that there is the evidently coincidence and overlap of these two categories of policies, but mainly in economic aspect; it does not cover the nature and character of these policies. The ethnic policies and implementation of these ethnic policies have recorded great achievements, especially in the hunger erasement and poverty reduction. However, they also reveals the certain limitations: have not paid enough attention on the ethnic peoples in the border region and have not been appropriate to the specific and diversified characteristics of ethnicities; a number of ethnic policies have been unspecific and overlapping; the mechanism of construction and counter-argument has had its limitations; the mechanism for controlling, monitoring and evaluating of the ethnic policies has not been good.
