This writting indicates clearly that for the San Diu community, the wet-rice fields play a very important role in agricultural structure, making remarkable contribution into the ensurement of main food for households as well as supplementing the development of livestock raising. The San Diu local knowledge in usage and protection of wet-rice fields is very diverse, reflects the adaptation of the San Diu people to productive conditions of the midlands. Some knowledge such as soil selection and making, seed selection, sowing and planting, tending, and harvesting, etc., continue to assert and bring into play their values. The productive and living practice of the San Diu people has proved their high adaptation to a changing environment for development and has affirmed the importance of combination of two systems of modern and traditional knowledge in production and poverty reduction of minority ethnicities in the mountainous region.
