The writing indicates the changes of family of Phu La people in comparison with it in the past. These changes are expressed clearly in the shift from the pattern of extended family including many generations under the one roof to the pattern of nuclear family with its smaller scale. As a result, the number of family members also has reduced gradually. The family pattern of Phu La people still has been a patriarchal form, but it has had an increasing equality of husband and wife. The bearing children still has been the important role of Phu La women. The functions of education and economy have been given prominence while the function of religious beliefs has been reduced gradually.
