The writing focuses on the analysis of the practical situation of poverty, the food source and the response to food shortage of Cham people in Tay Ninh province. It indicates that although Vietnam is a country of rice export ranking second in the world, the situation of food scarcity still has taken place in many ethnic minority peoples including Cham people in Tay Ninh. The farming season is not a decisive factor for food shortage because the hired works can help people have money for purchasing food. When suffering from food shortage, Cham people often buy food in debt or borrow food, etc. However, these responses to food shortage of Cham people only are temporary. In order to ensure the food security for the Cham community, the most important thing is that there must be the stable livelihoods and increase of income, the special policy to assist the socio-economic development of Cham people in Tay Ninh, and a long-term strategy to increase their education level.
