This article examines the significance of manufacturing arrangements in the Cat Dang lacquering trade village in Vietnam. The article compares trade arrangements in the past and the present in order to highlight the dynamic and adaptive processes of the art of manufacturing: coping with changes in sociocultual and economic pressures. The close examination of the roles of the foremen and masters reveals their important role in puchasing raw materials at competitive prices in order to earn a profit on the finished lacquer ware requires a great deal of experienced. Their succcessful ability to buy and sell ensure the livelihood of the trade village for future generations. The paper also gives prominence to the craftsmen because they play an decisive role in the development of the manufacturers.
