This article points out changes in the marriage ceremonies of the Tay people in Po Cai village, Gia Cat commune, Cao Loc district, Lang Son province. It also examines cultural safeguarding and changing trends as well as different factors affecting that changing process. The process of industrialization, modernization and global integration is an opportunity for new cultural elements to be introduced, then has changed the size, form and content of the Tay wedding ceremonies in the Po Cai village currently, especially expressed in the growing scale of the wedding, the shortening and simplification of ritual practises. Although the Tay wedding in the Po Cai village has changed and integrated into the modern society, traditional cultural elements have been maintained and interwoven with the new ones. The Tay people accept new cultural elements in a flexible and versatile way. Educating the next generations to heighten them awareness of the ethnic cultural values is essential to preserve those values.
