Community-based Communication: An Alternative Approach for Better Climate Change Solutions

Abstract

This paper proposes community-based communication as an alternative approach that could help to bring more effective coping strategies toward climate change. Departing from the widely agreed awareness that human are the central of environmental problems as well as of climate change, the paper focuses on identifying the benefits that the proposed approach could contribute for climate change prevention at community level. These include: raising awareness and providing proper knowledge about climate change for local peoples; changing consumption habit; empowering and valuing religion and traditional systems and introducing an overall view of sustainable development.
