The study promotion activities in the former confucian education and competition examination in Vietnam consisted of three parts: the study promotion of the state, villages and communes, and lineages of which the study promotion of lineages still has not touched fully by the research works. Based on the family records, stelae and practice of writing in Chinese, this article provides the understanding that the study promotion activities of lineages in the former times in Vietnam were highly appreciated. This was expressed by the school construction, advance of security cultivated land, ponds, gardens to borrow money paying for study, award of money or farming land for the graduates, etc. In addition, the study promotion activities also were encouraged by the spirit such as giving laudatory writings, poetries, parallel sentences, inscribing the names of graduates in the royal examinations on stelae. This article also introduces the new documents for completing the picture of study promotion in Vietnam as well as facilitating the application of the experiences of study promotion of lineages for the talent promotion at present.
